60th Anniversary of Independence and 41st Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Malta & Nepal, celebrated in Kathmandu

On Monday 16 September 2024, the Ambassador of Malta to Nepal ( resident in New Delhi, India) H.E. Reuben Gauci celebrated the Independence day of Malta in Kathmandu, Nepal. This was the first time that a National Day Reception of Malta, was held in the Nepalese Capital since the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Malta and Nepal in 1983. 

The Vice President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, H.E. Ram Sahaya Yadav attended as a Chief Guest for this event, which was held at the Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu.

During his speech, Ambassador Gauci praised the efforts of the Honorary Consul of Malta in Kathmandu, Mr Dinesh Shrestha,  and thanked him for his impeccable service in Nepal.  Mr Gauci also said that this year marked the 60th Anniversary of Malta’s attainment of Independence on 21 September 1964, along with the 41st Anniversary of the commencement of Malta Nepal Diplomatic Relations on 25 September 1983. 

Ambassador Gauci underlined the fact that the Nepalese Community in Malta has been increasing in the last decade and is becoming ever present in various sectors of the Maltese economy. The Ambassador also mentioned Ms Hannah Cremona, a Maltese National living in Nepal, who was present among the guests in the Reception. 

The Reception was organized and sponsored by the Honorary Consul of Malta to Nepal, Mr Dinesh Shrestha and was attended by a considerable number of distinguished guests from the Nepalese Political, Diplomatic, Business Communities and Civil Society .

During his visit to Nepal, Ambassador Gauci had a number of Bilateral Meetings, including with the Minster of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, H.E. Arzu Rana Deuba. He also attended celebrations pertaining to the Nepalese National Day which this year was commemorated on 19 September 2024.
