On Thursday 24 March 2022, H.E. Reuben Gauci presented credentials as
Malta’s High Commissioner to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, to the
President of Bangladesh, H.E. Abdul Hamid, at the Presidential Palace in the
Bangladeshi Capital of Dhaka. He was accompanied by his spouse, Dr. Olga V. Gauci.
Serving as Malta’s
High Commissioner of the Republic of Malta to India since
September 2020, H.E. Reuben Gauci travelled to Dhaka, Bangladesh within
the period 21-26 March 2022 in order to submit credentials in
view of the fact that the High Commission of Malta to India is also accredited as
Malta’s High Commission to the neighbouring country of Bangladesh.
During his visit,
High Commissioner Gauci also met with the Foreign
Minister of Bangladesh, H.E. A.K. Momen, the
Speaker of the House of Parliament, the Hon
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and
the Ambassador of the European Union to Bangladesh, H.E. Charles Whiteley.
Malta
and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations
on 20 December 1979. Bangladesh is a
country in South Asia, located on the Bay of
Bengal. It is surrounded almost entirely by
neighbouring India. At
the moment Malta is seeing a steadfast increase in the number of Bangladeshi
workers travelling to the island.
High
Commissioner Reuben Gauci showed his
sincere appreciation to the Honorary Consul of Malta in Dhaka, Mr Shoeb Chowdhary for his excellent
hospitality and the hosting of a lavish reception in honour of the presentation
of credentials. Mr Gauci also thanked the Honorary Consul of Malta in
Chittagong, Bangladesh, Mr Syed
Mahmudul Huq for his work.
