Celebrating 60 Years of Independence: Malta's National Day Reception in Doha

Doha, Qatar – 29/09/2024 – The Maltese community in Qatar gathered at the Dusit Doha Hotel on the 19th September 2024 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Malta’s Independence. 

The event commenced with a warm welcome from H.E. Simon Pullicino, Ambassador of Malta to Qatar. In his address, Ambassador Pullicino reflected on Malta’s journey over the past six decades, emphasizing the nation’s resilience and successes. The Ambassador highlighted that as Maltese celebrate this milestone, they should not forget their history and look forward to a future filled with opportunities. He also referred to the strong bonds of friendship that exist between Malta and the State of Qatar which have been further consolidated, over the last months, by a number of high level exchanges.

Attendees were treated to a special video message from the Hon. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Dr. Ian Borg, who extended his greetings to the Maltese diaspora. The Hon. Minister Borg highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation among Maltese citizens abroad, praising their contributions to the country’s reputation on the global stage.

Guests had the opportunity to network and celebrate their shared heritage, reinforcing the bonds that unite the Maltese in Qatar and fostering a sense of community among attendees. The celebration not only honored Malta’s independence but also showcased the ongoing commitment of the Maltese government to support its citizens abroad. The success of the event exemplified the small but vibrant Maltese community in Qatar and its dedication to preserving its cultural identity.

As the evening drew to a close, the sense of pride and camaraderie among attendees was palpable, marking a memorable occasion in celebration of Malta’s remarkable journey over the past 60 years.
