Opening speech at the 8th African University on Youth and Development (AUYD)

H.E Ambassador Lorenzo Vella, in his capacity as Chair of the Executive Committee of the North-South Centre, was invited to give the opening speech at the ‘8th African University on Youth and Development’ (AUYD), which took place in Cape Verde between 22-26 November 2022.

Ambassador Vella acknowledged the North-South Centre’s work in youth policy at the global and inter-regional level. The NSC can play an active role in implementing Council of Europe’s principles and tools, through a peer inter-cultural learning process, by fostering (i) solidarity and partnerships; (ii) confidence building between policy/decision makers and civil society; and (iii) mutual understanding of peace, democracy and development.

This initiative was organised in the framework of the project ‘Peace Youth Partnership - promoting Euro-Africa cooperation to enhance youth participation for peace’, which is funded by the Governments of Malta, Portugal, and Spain.
