On 4th July 2022, the prize winners of the NSTF Mini European Assembly competition, which is a yearly simulation exercise of the Council of Europe held in Malta, travelled to Strasbourg to visit the Council of Europe institutions.

The aim of this visit, organized by the Secretary General of NSTF Mr Francis Stivala and the Project Lead Coordinator of NSTF Mr Michael Gatt with the assistance of the Permanent Representation of Malta to the Council of Europe, was to see first-hand how this European Organization functions and to deepen their knowledge about its different bodies and the topical issues on their respective agenda.

During their visit at the Palace of Europe, they met with the Permanent Representative of Malta to the Council of Europe, H.E. Lorenzo Vella, who gave them a presentation about Malta’s diplomatic work at the Council, in particular on its political and legal work within the Committee of Ministers and in the North South Centre where Malta has been recently elected as Chair.

The students also met with high-level representatives from the Offices of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.

They were also given a tour of the Committee of Ministers room by the Deputy Permanent Representative Ms Francesca Camilleri Vettiger as well as of the Debating Chamber of the Parliamentary Assembly.
