Malta at the 2022 OSCE Mediterranean Conference held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Between the 24 – 25 October 2022, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Mr. Christopher Cutajar, led the Maltese delegation in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for the 2022  Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mediterranean Conference on “Advancing security and co-operation in the Mediterranean: fostering dialogue with the OSCE Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation”. During this conference, several themes such as climate change, trafficking in human beings and women’s economic empowerement, were discussed.

The Permanent Secretary delivered Malta’s statement at the Conference during the high-level political segment which discussed the role of youth in advancing security and co-operation in the Mediterranean. Mr. Cutajar highlighted the importance of youth empowerement for young people to be able to serve as drivers of significant social and political changes in the Mediterranean region and beyond. Malta’s intiatives to put young people at the heart of its policy and decision-making were also outlined.

On the margins of the General Conference, Mr. Cutajar also held a meeting with 
Ambassador Leena Al-Hadid, Secretary General at the Jordanian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, during which bilateral cooperation and regional matter were discussed, and with Dr. Ayman Khalil, Director of the Arab Institute for Security Studies.

The visit to Jordan ended with an afternoon in the capital city, Amman. Mr. Cutajar held a meeting with the Amman Chamber of Commerce, to discuss potential economic and commerical opportunities.

The OSCE Mediterranean Conference was also attended by Ambassador Natasha Meli Daudey, Malta’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE.
