“It is
essential that we continue to grow and expand our bilateral relations with a
country as strong and with several resources, so that our collaboration
continues to improve and translate in more opportunities for our people and
businesses.” This was stressed by Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and
Trade Ian Borg during an official visit to the United Arab Emirates.
At the
beginning of this visit, the Maltese foreign affairs minister met with Minister
of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates Reem Al
Hashemy.
The advances
made in recent years in terms of relations between the two countries and our
commitment to continue improving on what already exists were discussed during
this meeting. Together with Minister Al Hashemy, Dr Borg spoke about the United
Arab Emirates’ experience during the past year serving on the United Nations
Security Council. During this meeting, thoughts about how to strenghten our
already good cooperation between us during the period that we will be serving
together on the Security Council were discussed.
In light of
the fact that this meeting was held in Dubai Expo City, Minister Borg took the
opportunity to congratulate the minister for the UAE’s success in organising
the EXPO 2020, in which Malta was also a participant.
Later,
Minister Borg had the opportunity to meet with the Federation of UAE Chambers
of Commerce. “I enjoyed discussing how we want to continue to build on the
agreement that already exists with the Malta Chamber of Commerce and how we can
continue to build and further facilitate the transition for Maltese and Gozitan
businesses to roam in these markets,” emphasised Dr Borg.
“With the
President of the Federation, Mr Abdullah Mohammed Al Mazrui, I spoke in detail
about the benefits that our country offers to foreign businessmen who come to
invest in our country and how our country currently has one of the fastest
growing economies.”
