On Thursday, 08 December 2022, Mr Charles Calleja, First Secretary at the Embassy of Malta in Tel Aviv, co-hosted on behalf of the Embassy a special briefing for diplomats from EU Member Countries on Gender-based violence. This briefing was co-hosted together with the Delegation of the European Union to Israel to mark the 16-Days of Activism around the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Human Rights Day.

Following an introduction by the chair of the Meeting, Mr Calleja delivered remarks on several initiatives being taken by Malta to stop gender-based violence on the national and international level. During his remarks, Mr Calleja referred to Malta’s Women, Peace, and Security priority during its upcoming two-year tenure in the United Nations Security Council (2023-2024).

This special briefing was also an opportunity for the Israeli Ministry of Labour and Social Affair’s international department to illustrate to all those present at the briefing the relevant services at hand for counsellors and individual foreign nationals in Israel that may be subject to gender-based violence.
